Code of conduct

It is not a legal requirement, but we have created a set of principles that we abide by as a company to demonstrate our values and ethics.

In the construction industry there is a unique system called the ‘Construction Industry Scheme’ (CIS).  This scheme was set up specifically to deal with the large number of people in the industry avoiding paying tax by collecting cash or simply not declaring their income.  Thomson Design & Build LTD are a member of the scheme and this requires that we deduct earnings tax from sub-contractors, at source, and this is then passed on to HMRC every month.

If, during one of our projects, a sub-contractor was to offer a client service for cash, this is a direct violation of our code of ethics.  In this instance the sub-contractor would be immediately dismissed, risking project schedules and costs.

If, during one of our projects, a client was to ask one of our sub-contractors or employees to carry out service for cash, the client would be risking the immediate cancellation of the project, additional costs and potentially costing the sub-contractor or employee his or her job.

Thomson Design & Build LTD is a project management company, this involves the complete undertaking of an entire project from inception to completion.  Our clients rely on us to engage directly with the entire supply chain, sub-contractors, and employees to enable them to be free from all complication with regards to behaviour, standards, warranty, liability, and responsibility of issues.

In many instances, with regards to home improvements, a client may choose to engage with a groundworker, a bricklayer, roofer, electrician, etc..  In this case we are not of value to that client and therefore the project is not a good fit for this company.  As a VAT registered and CIS registered company, we will be unable or unwilling to compete with individuals that request cash as payment and clients should beware that if a sub-contractor is prepared to work in an unethical way then they are probably not working in the clients best interest either.

Our code of conduct attempts to encourage honesty, integrity, kindness, fairness and respectfulness.  This is what the company prioritises and expects from its workers as well as what it promotes to potential clients.  Putting this kind of code of conduct into practise is what helps us to stand out and gain a reputation for being ethical.
